During the luminary service, Greg Simmons first carefully read the names of local persons who died of cancer in alphabetical order, then the names of survivors. Because the paper bags were inside, they did not contain sand and candles. Attendees were invited to take them home "as a reminder of the fight your loved one has been in." He praised the "kind individuals with generous hearts" who supported the Relay for Life and said organizers want a huge turnout for the 25th event next summer.
