When Richard Andres first got into farming, he invited friends and customers to pick strawberries from a small plot. "What I really earned was a friendship and a level of hanging out with people and doing physical work and having this intimacy, which I was really thirsty for." He and his wife have expanded their Tantré Farm, Chelsea, Michigan, from 40 acres into a 160-acre organic spread supporting a robust CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture) program.
