Mayor Mike Bettice called David Strouse "somebody who means a lot to the school corporation and city of Batesville." Of the principal, his daughter told Bettice "what a great example he set for a rookie teacher." The mayor concluded, "An honor like this doesn't just come to one individual ... It happens because there are a lot of people working together ... He gets this because of the hard work of the teachers ... and students."
